  • my favorite song

Leonard Cohen, but Madeleine Peyroux does a fantastic cover:

“Dance Me To The End Of Love”

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic ’til I’m gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We’re both of us beneath our love, we’re both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I’m gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

  • we made eggs benedict!

he poached the eggs and I made the hollandaise

    eggs benedict

  • quailbabies

    IMG_0543

right now there are several broods of quailbabies picking through my backyard. some of the daddies are sitting on the top of the fence, on lookout. some of the babies got tired and piled up on the patio for a rest. some of the lay down on their sides with their feet sticking out: funniest thing I’ve ever seen. there’s nothing quite like a tiny, ball-of-fluff birdbaby with its awkward little feet sticking straight out the side.

  • and then there was one.

Rest In Peace, Bob. you were a good fish.
I’m sorry I overfed you for so long.
I didn’t want you to be hungry.

  • I’m very busy

    but also very happy.

I’m putting this up cos I may want to see these lyrics again and they were hard to find:

    Marooned Without You
    (from Joe vs. the Volcano)

Written by John Patrick Shanley. Music by Georges Delerue.

Why is my heart marooned without you
    The sun goes down
    My dreams begin their refrain
I call to whatever holds you
    My beloved
    I wait and I wait

Why is my heart marooned without you
A tiny light upon the sea
    My heart is so afraid
    You have broken away
    Tell me, darling, I pray
You will come to me soon
