  • if you don’t like show tunes SKIP IT and save me the grief… got it?
    my favorite movie:
    Show Boat
    RAVENAL
Who cares if my boat goes upstream,
Or if the gale bids me go with the river’s flow?
I drift along with my fancy
Sometimes I thank my lucky stars my heart is free -
And other times I wonder where’s that mate for me?
The driftwood floating over the sea
    Someday finds a sheltering lee,
So, somewhere there surely must be
A harbour meant for me -
I drift along with my fancy -
Sometimes I thank my lucky stars my heart is free,
And other times I wonder where’s the mate for me…
Only make believe I love you,
Only make believe that you love me.
Others find peace of mind in pretending -
    Couldn’t you?
    Couldn’t I?
    Couldn’t we?
Make believe our lips are blending
In a phantom kiss, or two, or three.
Might as well make believe I love you,
For to tell the truth, I do.
    (He steps back)
    Your pardon I pray,
    ‘Twas too much to say
The words that betray my heart.

    MAGNOLIA
    We only pretend,
    You do not offend
    In playing a lover’s part.
    The game of just supposing
Is the sweetest game I know.
    Our dreams are more romantic
    Than the world we see

    RAVENAL
And if the things we dream about
    Don’t happen to be so,
    That’s just an unimportant technicality.

    MAGNOLIA
Though the cold and brutal fact is
You and I have never met,
We need not mind convention’s P’s and Q’s.
If we put our thoughts in practice
    We can banish all regret
    Imagining most anything we choose.
We could make believe I love you,
We could make believe that you love me.

    MAGNOLIA & RAVENAL
Others find peace of mind in pretending,
    Couldn’t you,
    Couldn’t I?
    Couldn’t we?

    RAVENAL
Make believe our lips are blending
In a phantom kiss – or two – or three.

    MAGNOLIA & RAVENAL
Might as well make believe I love you,

    RAVENAL
For to tell the truth, I do…
one of my many shower songs… or, currently, laying rock songs.
it’s funny, when you’re young you relate to the engenue…
but now I’m old (the sadder but wiser girl for me!)
and not only do I know I’m not Magnolia,
    but I’ve accepted that I’m Julie…
and, well, I guess I can take comfort in not being a drunk!
    Oh listen sister
    I love my mister man
And I can’t tell you why
    there ain’t no reason
Why I should love that man
    It must be something
    That the angels done plan
    Fish gotta swim
    Birds gotta fly
I gotta love one man till I die
Can’t help lovin’ that man of mine

    Tell me he’s lazy
    Tell me he’s slow
    Tell me I’m crazy
    Maybe I know
Can’t help lovin’ that man of mine

    When he goes away
    That’s a rainy day
    And when he comes back
    That day is fine
    The sun will shine

    He can come home
    As late as can be
    Home without him
    Ain’t no home to me
Can’t help lovin’ that man of mine
and don’t worry, I’ve got a smile on.
music just makes me wistful like that.
