Next month (the beginning of the fiscal year) I am buying the salon downstairs. I wanted to start fresh with the new year making taxes a bit simpler. The current owner wants to be done, however, so saturday I moved my things down and will be working there until the deal closes. The papers are already signed but I pay on the first of the year.
The salon is beautiful, red walls, nice antiques, beige carpet, and brown, alligator-print vinyl in the cutting area. All the hair stations (3) are antique bureaus. The owner took her station with her so I went out and found a new one:
Thursday I was at work from 10am till midnight. I only work late two nights a week and not usually that late. Ten is pretty much the average of lateness. This was my friend Molly, however, and we also had dinner delivered (and Molly brought wine).
I had previously colored Molly’s hair a medium-dark, violet brown. This time we touched up the root and added blond and light-brown chunks to the top:
I cut about five inches off the back in what appears to be an inverted bob/A-line, but is actually a disconnected bob. The hair is cut straight across the back at above-the-collar length but is left long on top from the crown forward:
We had a nice night.

love the bureau and the cut!
thank you!
woo very pretty
congrats on the purchase!
Awesome! COngratulations! I am so happy for you. Your friends hair is adorable.
I’m so excited for you, that’s wonderful!
And that hair makes me wish, for the first time since mine developed a wave, that it was straight again.
her hair is actually wavy– we blew it out over a round brush.
you are a great stylist. i love the bureau.
and congrats on expansion!!! fantastic!
gorgeous! congratulations!
You busted me..the problem isn’t the wave in my hair, it’s my absolute refusal to actually do anything with it
me next!!!
It looks great and spacious too. Congratulations.
So here is my question, I hope you can help me. I have gray hair all over but it is colored dark brown every 4 weeks. I am tired of coloring and thinking of letting it go natural. So there are 2 questions. What is the best way to get rid of color? And could I then “tint” my gray hair so it looked somewhat better ? I am not asking my own dresser because I am a steady stream of money and I think in spite of her best intentions she would be biased.
You do beautiful work! I’ve been considering that same haircut lately…wish I lived nearby!
Also, congrats on the salon
Dude. See this is why we need to talk more. But I’ll be back in WA shortly, so I can come check out the new salon.
Next: Pirate ship.
Congratulations. The salon sounds fantastic, I love the idea of antique bureaux, the more special it is the more special your clients will feel them to be.
ryc: The secret event is not happening on my island. I have to sail to it. You can read about it next weekend on every single news media going probably but with luck I will have the first pics.
That is awesome.
You need to do me. In more ways than one.
wow. a great businesswoman and stylist!! mazeltov on the salon deal!
LOVE the hair and congrats on the purchase!
That is very cool! Good for you. I love the hair.
new salon is good.
that girl is kinda hot.
carry on.
it seems to be some type of magical bureau… or at least mirror; the girl in the foreground does not look anything like the girl in the mirror (posture/position-wise, i mean.) it is fantastical. and also, some kickass hair. if i’m ever out that way, you know i’m coming to sit at that magic mirror.
Beautiful job on the hair, and YAY YOU!!!!! So proud of you, this is wonderful!
Still calling it The Crimson Door? Are you going to be pumping HIM’s music?
I have a friend in Tacoma-are you near there? I’ll send her to you!
