the Obama/Biden ticket is against gay marriage? seriously? WTF?
I’m upset with myself that I didn’t already know this. I just assumed, and I shouldn’t.
I sometimes forget that my views will never be fully (or even mostly) espoused by a majority candidate.
******oh and… I have a new word: confussed. upset about being confused.

Unfortunately, the only person who shares the majority of my beliefs is Kucinich and that’s never going to happen… I supported Hilary in the primaries because of this; Obama gave some bullshit interview about how he’s a christian and therefore couldn’t support gay marriage. I mostly like the guy and I’ll vote for him, but he’s definitely far from my perfect candidate
I can’t believe Palin’s whole “tolerance” story… her church promotes (attempted) conversion which doesn’t sound very tolerant to me.
when the primary shit was going on, I was rather upset by the obama stance on gay marriage. it was the only true mark against him in my mind, other than being a shifty politician, that is. it still upsets me but if there is going to be any hope, we certainly cannot have another republican in office right now. at least here in california our republican gov. arnold has the balls to stand up for gay marriage.
but even kucinich was against gay marriage. Or so stated at the last debate he was a part of.
this is the problem–no major candidate can support that. But what Obama and Biden are stating is a civil union. And if I were them my answer to that question would be “I don’t have an opinion on gay marriage–that’s within the church. But our government should give gay couples civil unions, more over, civil unions, in general, should be recognized, BY THE STATE, as legal marriage. But as to traditional marriage–that’s the church’s job.”
It’s a good way to get around that question, but it’s also something I agree with. If a church wants to recognize gay marriage–more power to them. If they don’t, so be it. But that’s not the state’s job to decide what the church’s choose to do. The state’s job is to provide equal rights. That’s what Biden was trying to get across, didn’t do the best job, and he knows that he’s gotta be careful.
Cause Obama’s a Muslim, ya know.
I know, everyone just assumed Obama/Biden were for gay marriage. I don’t know how many times I told people, when they said “Palin’s anti-gay,” “So is Obama!!” But they didn’t listen.

Yes, because everyone shares the same views with their church.
I got scared of how many times she said ‘tolerance/tolerant’…it’s like that mom who “tolerates” her kids screaming until she beats the crap out of them at the checkout.

at which point it could be said she has gone “nucular.”
i think it’s politically pragmatic right now for obama to be “against” gay marriage. he can’t be elected otherwise. (personally, with only a 50% success rate, i’m against heterosexual marriage.) but obama is clearly the better candidate with regard to minority rights, and once in office, i truly believe he’ll show more of his progressive side.
Marriage is sacred don’t ya know. Only Britney’s and Pammy’s are allowed to debase it cuz dems are straight people.

I didn’t say everyone has to share every view with his/her church, but the bs practice of conversion is so horrible and psychologically damaging that if she doesn’t agree, then she should say something (if you’ve seen where she addresses it, please point me in the right direction).
I think they all suck. I am waiting for a good third party to get some support.
I was really disappointed too. One of my cousins just got married in Cali, and I’m so proud of her for doing it…and despite what the politicians say, I hope that someday it’ll be more accepted.
I got really upset by that as well, and I also was surprised that I was… well, surprised. my mom says that we’re progressive, but I think that’s bunk. Progressive? Because we think that people should be able to love who they love? Sad, really.
The thing is.. I don’t think that they are personally opposed to gay marriage, they just can’t publicly embrace it right before a national election, because standing up and speaking out for it right now would do that particular issue more harm than good: it would torpedo the Obama campaign, and in the long run, more Republicans in the White House would jut wreck gay rights for years to come.
I understand being confused, but the guy can’t cut off his nose to spite his face. In a very careful interview, what he’s saying is this: “We’re going to give civil rights to gay men and women, because they deserve to have the same benefits as straight couples/people — let’s leave the discussion about the word “marriage” to the churches where it belongs. In the eyes of the law, they should have, and indeed deserve respect.” Obama is smart, darlin’. He’s covering his ass, and I agree. Marriage is a holy covenant between two people.
Wanna get married? I mean, damn — “if it wasn’t for that whole sex thing, I’d totally be gay.” <— a quote from my son who agreed that he’d rather hang out with his friends all day. =)
And you know I love you. I have a great health care package from my job. I’d take care of you!

thanks for that link! I understand his position (and it was put very eloquently and compassionately). I guess I had a reaction of shock but I do understand those above who made the point that any other position makes him unelectable.
I have a theory when it coms to that “protect marriage” saying…
I’m thinking that all “Super Christian”suburban husbands are closet queens, and the moment gay marriage becomes universally accepted, all the Football “buddies” out there who enjoy their “manly pursuits” will divorce their wives, run off together, get married, open up interior decorating studios and start breeding Shih-Tzus. Just a thought…
