  • there are deer lying on the front lawn.  it’s night.  that is just too cool.  there was a doe that was napping there about a month ago, but that was in the day.  tonight there are two of them, and they’re not even next to each other.  what a warm feeling to know they feel safe there.

the neighbor gets so angry at them.  they eat his garden.  he is so mr. macgregor.

they ate our strawberries.  a fawn…we saw a fawn eating them.  so magical.  we felt honored.  and we were, really.

I don’t think we’re in some fairy wonderland.  one of our cats “disappeared”.  there are coyotes for sure, and the occasional cougar in the general area…the raccoons are cute, but I know better than to try to pet one.  still…  realistically magical.

this afternoon, the girls and I were lying in the hammock together, looking at the sky, and over us flew a single bald eagle.  so big, so slow.

you can be smack in the middle of some serious shit, and the world never ceases to be its amazing self.

  • OH, so cool!  I would love to have a deer on my front lawn.  But someone would probably shoot it.

  • Oh, I loved this blog.

One time I was at youth camp, and snuck out to the picnic table area with my sleeping bag, and a whole herd of white-tails came grazing in the moonlight that night.  I never could tell if it was real or a dream, but I sure hope it was real.

  • at least mr. macgregor doesn’t appear to be the elmer fudd type!  it’s fun to watch him run and yell while waving his arms.  the deer think he’s funny too.

  • smarti…any good pisces will tell you:  sometimes dreams are more real than what goes on during the day.

  • see yet another reason why I need to come live in the chalet you are going to build.

  • STRAWBERRIES CAN EAT ALL THE DEER THEY WANT TO.

    THIS IS INJUSTICE!!!

  • aye, magically delicious!

We’re getting coyotes in Florida too which is freaky, I’ve always associated them with the great plains and parts west.

  • i love having wildlife in the yard.  we don’t have much of a yard, though, so we don’t get many animals.  we have a woodchuck, though.  i discourage bill from mowing the weedlawn because when it’s short the hog finds himself another yard to graze.

i may be repeating myself, but the only reason i’d ever bother to plant a garden would be so the animals come and eat it.  god knows i’d never eat it…

  • The wonder is what you brought to the common.

  • wow, so great to be awed by the world by so many things

  • more importantly, you are never beyond being amazed.  imagination, creativity, stillness in heart and mind.  lovely words.

  • I agree with James.

  • Yes, it’s a great thing to be able to indulge yourself in what nature has to offer, when you can.  Most of the nature I see around me, though, consists of other people–neighbors.

  • aw, that’s a really cool story! :)

  • I used to have beautiful gardens and get really upset when the cows would come and eat it all. But then I decided it was so nice for cows to live long, free lives on the island (they usually only kill young bulls and really really old cows for meat) wandering around in little family groups and being truly ‘free range’.  I would love to have deer in the garden, that would be worth growing whatever they liked best for them.  We don’t have deer here.  Do have some llamas though

  • the magic is always there. some people are too busy worrying about their strawberries to see it…

  • The world never ceases to astonish me.. who needs Gods when we have Nature?
