the coolest thing happened this afternoon…
I was tidying and vacuuming like a middle-aged whirlwind this afternoon, because the realtor was coming, right on the heels of my babysitting charge leaving. trying to clean while preschool kids play is, well, frustrating. but anyway, I let the cat in, and then a few minutes later, realized she had a BIRD!
I picked the cat up and tossed her outside. then went to look at the bird. pretty close to dead, I thought, didn’t even pull in her feet. I got an oven mitt and picked her up, trying to keep her warm. babyjane and I sat quietly with her while I explained how we were going to keep her warm and safe until she died. she was so tiny, so incredibly tiny.

the time finally came when we had to leave to pick up the other kids…the realtor got in a fender bender and wasn’t able to make it… I made a warm nest in a box, put the bird in, and put it in my closet.
when we came back, the bird was perched on the side of the nest! I carried her to the window and she flew away! wow!
…oh, and I forgot to mention, I got to watch two bucks locking horns on my lawn this morning. it lasted about fifteen minutes, and was pretty clearly play. wow. it was a good nature day.

Oh my goodness… that is a beautiful sotry about the bird. And the bucks. where the hell do you live anyway, to get to see that?
the bird story is amazing. and where do you live? in the woods? because all I ever get to see are dead rats in my yard, and they won’t revive no matter how much closet nest time they get.
wow that is sooo damn cool!!! very magical
I’m happy the birdy flew away, that’s amazing.
that’s awesome!
…and you will be this bird, my girl. oh yes, you will.
awesome
Very allegorical, sweets.
Superdeluxe gifts from nature… wow. Like rache said, you da bird and you gonna fly.
That is cool. Just once I’d like to use the oven mitt to pick up something other than a mangled corpse. Oven mitts are just perfect for those jobs, huh?
Just when you think things couldn’t get much worse. They do. No, no, no, that’s not what I meant. I mean they get better.
If that’s allegorical, then I think I’m represented by the two horny bucks.
Poor bird was just in shock. It happened to me once with a cat, dude. The great big Newf frightened the cat half to death. I called the vet in tears, and when she came, the cat jumped on its feet and fled like an olympic champion. Makes you believe in miracles though, doesn’t it? The bird, I mean.
Amazing!! the bird and those bucks. I’ve never seen bucks lock horns in real life. wow!
whats a newf?
and if merridan hasnt seen two bucks lock horns – she needs to goto more bars.
You had a lovely wild kingdom in your yard today! Wow!
wow. just wow.
Excellent day, the ones that make you glad to be here, even if you have to spend it doing crappy stuff like cleaning
That’s soooo cool
is that a wren? i should get out my bird book because i should know that. yay for saving birdies. there’s some definite good karma in your future woman.
nature is wonderful, isn’t it? cruel and miraculous at the same time.
So wounded bird opened its eyes, grew new, stronger and more beautiful wings and left the stranger’s nest….
I love it!
wow, what a great day…birds are resilient that way, i’m not sure if they play dead or are just in shock, but i’m not too surprised that even though you thought it was a goner, tweety had the last laugh…
props for you
What a great day. Symbolic too, don’t you think? You are maybe going to need a rest, a hibernation even, time to think, then you are going to fly too
Wow. The only horns I encounter are the ones that honk. And here’s to your tiny little miracle.
You could film friggen nature documentarys from your house!
reminds me of a time my aunt and i resusitated a baby robin when i was young. we gave it a home in an old tire in the garage and fed it until it was well enough to fly. thanks for bringing back that lovely memory. i wish i had a memory to bring back about bucks. camels eating cheetos at the zoo, yes. bucks, no.
)
wow, that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
you must live in a damned beautiful place.
How wonderful that the bird made such a recovery. I didn’t think it would survive.
Excellent save!
That is sooooooooooo cool!
50,000 props!

thanks for the props =]
wow, that is a miracle! I think.
That’s pretty cool! I have seen many a rescued bird in my time, but I haven’t seen any buck play. We have about a dozen does that frequent our property on a daily basis. Beauty, sheer beauty.
resurrection and playing. excellent imagery at this time in your life.
