burning, burning, burning… no, not sensation, music for the partay.
sixty greatest hits for sixty great years of mom. not sixty actual songs, because, well, I’m not that anal… but she’ll be 60 on friday.
party music, trying to accomodate her likes with a party flow– it’s like the guy said in High Fidelity, “The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don’t wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules.” and this is a four volume set. so this shit’s for real. gotta put my nose to the grindstone. heh.
you know the best voices i’ve ever heard? Mandy Patinkin (Indigo from Princess Bride) and Queen Latifah. amazing. Patinkin used to be a broadway star before he did movies.
I think I’ll close it with Goodnight Irene.
I love to make mixed cd’s for people. in fact, I’ve made some for people and then not given them. it’s so personal it makes me feel like a big goober and I think, “oh jayzus…” and smack my head.
The Andrews Sisters
I can see
No matter how near you’ll be
You’ll never belong to me
But I can dream, can’t I?
Can’t I pretend that I’m locked in the bend of your embrace?
For dreams are just like wine
And I am drunk with mine
I’m aware
My heart is a sad affair
There’s much disillusion there
But I can dream, can’t I?
Can’t I adore you
Although we are oceans apart?
I can’t make you open your heart
But I can dream, can’t I?
I’m aware
My heart is a sad affair
There’s much disillusion there
But I can dream, can’t I?
Can’t I adore you
Although we are oceans apart?
I can’t make you open your heart
But I can dream, can’t I?

Mandy Pantiken (sp?) does have a GREAT voice. And I really love queen latifa, for many reasons. But I think my favorite female voice? Ella Fitzgerald.
Anyhow, good luck with this project. I did something simular for the halloween partyI threw. I thought it’d take just a bit–but, well–took forever. You want the songs to flow, but not so much so that one doesn’t catch you off guard everyonce in a while. Etc.
great american novel! Fantastic (oh and i’ve decided not to use eprops. I’m anti e-prop–don’t take offense, I think you understand).
mccrea–hmm..I don’t know if I know. Can you name a song? I may not know here, so I wouldn’t have a clue.
I also just remembered that I really dig Lucinda williams…just for the raw qualitites. Oh and also? dolly. Seriously.
I got all excited thinking my eprop blocking script was working again! I’ll have to go look into it again…
I wonder if it’s not working because they changed the whole thing with the photos now? I think they really need to make that an option. Some of us just don’t give a damn about stupid eprops. I’d make my posts email only–but really, i love the feedback. A shitty post can still result in some fun feedback.
Anyhow, I’ll look for some more carmen, As you say that I bet I have heard her and the name is ringing a bell–btu I can’t place it at all. My parents were a big fan of music from that era.
and I can’t get into “look and feel”. dammit. ::shakes fist at mercury::
this must look like such a weird convo if you’re not going back and forth to both our pages, eh?
yes, it does.
and you should def. include the specials!
Yeah, it is.
Your mom is so young, when I turn sixty, my youngest will only be
be 21. LOL
i think we’re related.
and did i gather you like lucinda williams from fodon’s site? yah, um obsessed. i’ve seen her live about 5 times… *drool*.
i’m back, to screw up the conversation some more!
actually I don’t really have anything to add at the moment.
lol…
Happy birthday to your Mum. I like making mixed cds too.
from princess lisa:
Now, THIS is my idea of a good friend…
Are you tired of all those sissy “friendship” poems that always sound
good, but never actually come close to reality? Well, here is a series
of promises that really speaks to true friendship:
1. When you are sad – I will help you get drunk and plot revenge
against the sorry bastard who made you sad.
2. When you are blue – I will try to dislodge whatever is choking you.
3. When you smile – I will know you finally got laid.
4. When you are scared – I will rag on you about it every chance I
get.
5. When you are worried – I will tell you horrible stories about how
much worse it could be and to quit whining.
6. When you are confused – I will use little words.
7. When you are sick – Stay the hell away from me until you are well
again. I don’t want whatever you have.
8. When you fall ! – I will point and laugh at your clumsy ass.
This is my oath…I pledge it till the end. Why? You may ask.
Because you are my friend.
Send this to 10 of your closest friends, then get depressed because
you can only think of two.
Remember: A good friend will help you move. A really good friend
will help you move a body. Let me know if I ever need to bring a shovel.
ok I just snorked. Lisi makes me laugh. Now see I always pegged you for a fantastic mixed tape maker. You have that story telling art about you and well that is what a mix is, a story. So yeah, I think your mom will love it.
xo
ah… your mom…. my future wife.
as your future dad I DEMAND HORRIBLE BLACK LICORICE THROWN AT EVERYONE BUT US!!!
ooh make me a CD. between poop wiping, I’ll listen to it
I’ve seen Mandy Patinkin in two plays, I think…I know he was Che Guavara in Evita when I saw it…
